For months now, there have been signs of a new restaurant opening at the corner of Polk and Post, where Hank’s Eats used to be. Yesterday, this new place finally opened its doors to the public under the name Eleven O One (take a wild guess as to what the name means). Of course, we popped in to say hi to the new owner, who turned out to be Tender friend Ike Aboubzou who also owns late-night sandwich place Bite, Dolce Gelato and the Yogi Food Market all on Sutter at Leavenworth right next door to each other. Here you can see Ike receiving some good luck balloons from friends who came into the restaurant while we were there to congratulate him on the opening.

The extensive menu includes, of course, a great many nice sandwiches which they all sound amazing. But judging solely by the titles, our favorites are probably the “Love Affair” — chicken, havarti, honey mustard, BBQ honey –, and the “Unholy matrimony” — chicken, jalapeno poppers, pepperhouse sauce and ranch. There are also several choices of salads, a few pasta options, wraps, chicken wings, as well as other crowd-pleasing bar foods. Their idea is to deliver to the nearby bars (they’ll be open until 2am), but also attract a day crowd of people searching for classic dishes.

We particularly liked the pleasant interior decoration, although I have to admit I don’t remember how the inside of Hank’s looked. In case you were curious like we were, the artwork on the walls is by Erin McAdams, a local artist who resides in the neighborhood just a few blocks away. If you’re in the area, you should definitely check the place out.
