In response to the recent natural disasters that have struck Japan, San Francisco-based Japanese art collective, Surreality in Reality (SIR) and three local galleries have joined together to organize two art fundraisers to benefit Japanese non-profits providing relief to victims, via Give2Asia. The first Rise Japan event is happening tonight from 7pm to midnight at both Kokoro Studio on Geary at Leavenworth, and at Gallery Heist across the street.

It’s a one night only salon-style art exhibition with live performances that promises to be a blast. They have received artwork donations by more than 150 artists, which are all priced at around $100 or below. I passed by Kokoro Studio yesterday, and was very impressed with all the works they’ve received and the preparations for the party tonight (if, like me, you’re curious you can see some of the pieces on Flickr). Public Barber Salon at 571 Geary has hung a big canvas which is a wishing wall that you can sign and which will make its way to Japan afterwards. Also, the guys from theloin are releasing two new tees designs tonight that they’ll be selling alongside their usual stuff and donating the proceeds to Rise Japan.

The musical performances (starting at 9PM at Kokoro Studio) include Mr. Hungry, Cactus, Cyclub☆, Tiger Honey Pot, The Ass Baboons of Venus and a few DJs. Drinks and food are provided by sponsors Sapporo USA and Onigilly, respectively. Also, in conjunction with the benefit, Rye Bar next door to Kokoro Studio, is offering “Rising Sun Cocktail” for $10 and $5 will be donated.

100% of all the proceeds generated will be donated to Give2Asia and they are also expecting a few companies to match their donation.

See you all there tonight?
