At about 9:45 this morning, as I was on my way home after buying what felt like a hundred pounds of fruits and vegetables (the fridge was empty, the stomach more so), I came across an unusual scene on Post between Leavenworth and Hyde. The block had been closed off, and the first thing I noticed was a Muni bus (the 3) sitting by the side of the road unhooked and with some signs of scorching on for the overhead trolley bars.
The Muni bus was in the company of four fire trucks, a few police cars, a PG&E truck, and another yellow truck because no scene is complete without a random yellow utility truck doin’ shit. The yellow truck seemed to be fixing something, but I couldn’t quite figure out what. A police officer then told me that there had been an explosion in a transformer, which in turn caused a smaller explosion in the overhead system of the Muni bus. He said that there were sparks and a big noise, but in spite of the moment of panic there was no damage to the bus besides a slightly bent trolley pole. I have to admit I would have liked to see the scene, maybe some Tender reader was there?
