I’m from a country where every household has a cool shopping cart (as well as a hanging leg of meat at Christmas). There are endless models of carts on the market, some of them very hip and fancy and others more proletarian, but regardless, the lack of choices in this city is quite disheartening. In particular, I hate the ever-present bulky metal monkey cages on wheels that so many old ladies in ugly caps seem to bash around on Muni.
Seeing this lady walking down Jones the other day, I wondered if she, too, is frustrated by the shopping carts on offer in the US and that’s why she decided to make one herself with a cardboard box and a stick. Or maybe her monkey cage cart is in the shop and that’s the loaner.
