Last week, when passing through the ever so amazing Hallidie Plaza, I came across crews installing one of the new bus shelters. Naturally, as you can see above, the peanut gallery was in full roasted and salted glory to watch the events unfold.
Disappointingly, it wasn’t as magical as I had hoped. Some dudes just worked to bolt stuff together and then hoist the seismic wave roof on top of it. Cool, but nothing to get excited about. The one groovy point in this was that I found out that the shelters come in a stretch version. Whereas, the older, funkwad shelters only had three seats, it appears that the new ones will house four on up. I think this one is being built to hold something like 10 people… or three shopping carts with a guy screaming about how Willie Brown needs to be impeached in 2012.
