It’s rare to find a complete pair of shoes on the street, but here they are. Found at the corner of Sutter and Jones, I’m guessing they’re cast-offs from Sunday’s Nike Women’s Marathon. I’d abandon these shoes too, if they were mine. I hate thick-soled running shoes, I find racing flats to be a much better experience while running in the city because they encourage a forefoot strike rather than a heel strike. I like to think this gal would walked four blocks to the Nike store’s free shoe recycling drop-off if she hadn’t, you know, just run 26.2 miles.

What about when going downhill? Wouldn’t a heel strike be better there? I know nothing about running, but a thing or two about physics. Just spitballing here.
