Mission Local has a wodnerfully kickass map that creates an overlay of restaurant health inspection scores in their respective zip codes. The image above is for 94102, which covers most all of the Loin. It’s honestly pretty damn good. Sure, a couple of “60 and under” locations pop up, but there are a ton of 90-99’s as well as some 100’s.

Now take a look at 94109 which is primarily the Hills. You’ll see a lot more of the food-poisoning-in-hiding, “60 and under” spots. That’s not good for anyone…

Naturally, there are other joints in that city that outshine the Loin, like neighboring 94104, although I really question if that’s even realistic as there are a pile of 100 spots which seems to be a bit over the top. Even the poshest of restaurants have a little dirt under the hood (with the exception of French Laundry apparently) Suffice to say, that map says a lot and goes to show that contary to popular belief the restaurants in our hood are pretty clean, even if you definitely don’t want to eat off the sidewalk in front of them. That’s a whole different story…
