The best thing about La Mexicana is that you know exactly what you’re getting in to as soon as you see the awning: “La Mexicana Mexican Food”. I like that in a place. I also like that while it’s not the best place out there, it’s been reliable to me and I was hitting it up a great deal when I first moved to the hood seven years ago. I even took an ex-girlfriend from the East Coast here who is a vegetarian and she was sated, although I’m sure that the vegetarian options are tasty because they use some kind of lard when making them.

Yevil has it at 3.5 out of 5 with 49 reviews, which it seems just about everything in San Francisco has these days. I’d give it a four purely for the sake of nostalgia and that it helped me pork up a bit when I transplanted from the East Bay (where the Mexican food is hell.) Oh and Yevil has it as being in Nob Hill, but uh, anywhere where tranny hookers come out at night just down the corner is not Nob Hill.
