In what is an incredibly inappropriate salute to Cinco de Mayo (also the fact that anyone kicking French ass in the 19th century was totally awesome) we’re going to do a Tenderloin Burrito (Tenderrito) Roundup..

Basically, how this works is leading up to the Fifth, we’re going to do an article a day on Mexican joints in the Loin. Obviously, before we get started on this, yeah, the Loin is pretty sucky for Mexican food. Despite my oh-so subtle hints at disliking hipsters, I fully bow down to the fact that la Mission is the absolute best spot for all things burrito and delicious from South of the Border. But, seeing as how it will cost you $3.50 for a Bart roundtrip burrito safari to say… wrapped heaven El Farolito at 24th, there are times (such as now) where hitting the little donkey in the Loin just makes economic sense. So, without further ado, let’s get to a couple today.

Chunky’s
I’ve never set foot in here. Yelp has a 3.5 out of 5 with 45 reviews. That is not promising. If anyone has feedback on it, I’d be curious to know given that the shadier a place looks, often the better it is and this place looks pretty bad, so… anyone have feedback?

El Super Burrito
When I first moved to the Loin, I gave this a taste. It was bland and boring, like eating at a Chevy’s in the Loin. Yelp puts it at 3 out of 5 with 104 reviews. I’d probably give it a 3 if we weren’t in a town awash in awesome Mexican food. As it sits, 2.

Los Compadres
I had no idea that this place even existed. Given that it’s a 4 out of 5 on Yelp with 26 reviews, it appears that I’ve been missing out. It’s just soooo far and I’m soooo lazy…

El Castillito
I have no idea how I’ve missed this and it’s Yelped at 4 out of 5 with 95 reviews. I buy all my stolen bike parts at Golden Gate and Larkin, yet for some reason, I’ve passed this by like a sucker. My life suddenly feels incomplete in a way that only booze can help to solve.

Okay, so that’s Day 1. If you think that there are places missing, you’re right because they’ll be covered over the next couple of days and there will be more salsa, more flavor, and more love. Stay tuned.
